How to Build an Organic Skin Care Routine on a budget

The skin is the largest organ in our bodies and therefore demands a bit of extra care. I have a strong preference for organic products so I’m not that open to trying just any product and also I’m acne prone. A while ago I embarked on a search for easy DIY solutions for a healthy skin care routine and I got one that was perfect for me especially in terms of cost and availability.

For this I settled on cucumber and tomato mix. It requires one medium sized tomato and half a cucumber which you blend and add some water. You apply this mixture once or twice a day as desired for about 10-15 minutes then rinse off with warm water.

Lemon water. Add one part lemon and two parts water, that’s it! However, I recommend using it at night as I came across studies that showed when lemon is used topically and exposed to sunlight, it could cause some damage to the skin. Secondly, use it at most 4 times a week. I leave mine for about 10-15 minutes then add my moisturizer. You can choose to leave it on or rinse it off. I leave mine on.

Coconut Oil or Honey. I live at the Coast so coconuts are at my disposal. I attempted to make some coconut oil but ended up with coconut milk but it’s been working fine still. Grate the coconut then transfer to the blender, add some bit of water. Blend for about 20 minutes, use a strainer to drain the coconut water into a container. Store in the fridge. Apply twice a day. If using honey, apply on your face and leave for about 10-15 minutes then rinse off with warm water.

For a couple of weeks I did the complete routine twice a day but eventually I stuck with just the coconut milk. In the morning, I used to leave out the toner part because of the lemon and sunlight reaction. I understand having a routine is important, I honestly just hate the extra work, but I’m working on that. My skin is beginning to have break outs lately which I’ve discovered is as a result of some drugs I’m taking (was sick a few days back) so I’m going back to the full regimen.

Please seek professional advice before embarking on any skin care routine. Some may work for you some may not and your skin may also have reactions to some products.
